How you reach the support team just in case there is an issue that needs work is as important of a factor as any when it comes to picking the right dedicated host for you.  Here are a couple of things to look for:

Phone Support – You should be able to contact your support team to ask them a question during reasonable hours via the phone. 

E-mail or Help Desk Support – This one is a necessity for any and all.  Make sure that any dedicated host you decide to go with has a help desk in place to help you track your progress with a problem and to make it easy to report them.

Also you will need to educate yourself on:

  • When support is available
  • Help pages that may help you with simpler problems
  • When can you or can’t you ask for help

Any dedicated web host should be more than happy to explain things to you if you are confused as to where you should start or go to next.  Just make sure that you fully explain your problem so that they have more information to work with from the start and they don’t need to ask you for more details.
