Microsoft Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition

March 12, 2008

As you choose the best dedicated host for your dedicated server, you’ll have to choose between Linux web hosting and Windows web hosting. And if you choose Windows web hosting, there are three levels of operating systems below that which you need to choose from: 2003 Web Edition, 2003 Standard Edition, and 2003 Enterprise Edition.

As the most expensive of your three choices, the Microsoft Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition is often the easiest to overlook. However, the price you pay is quite cheap if you consider the bang you get for your buck.

Unlike the Web and Standard Editions, Microsoft Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition can run MS SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition, which is incredibly useful if you are hosting a database server or have heavy database use in your server’s future. Enterprise Edition can also support up to an astounding 32GB RAM and 4 processors, making it worthwhile for large websites that require these kinds of resources and CPU heights.

The only real downside to working with MS SQL 2005 Enterprise is that it has a separate licensing fee from Windows, so there is definitely a higher cost associated with machines running this kind of technology. However, the extra cost is definitely worth it for a database server or high resource dedicated server hosting plan.
